Jim Andreolo traveled to Aruba to observe the total solar eclipse of 26 February, 1998. He photographed from the same site that Joe Cascella used, and had to battle the same windy conditions.
Jim has presented us with an excellent series of eclipse shots which we are proud to post in his gallery.
Jim used a 500mm fl f5.6 Maksutov spotting scope attached to a camera loaded with Kodak Professional Ektachrome ASA 200 film.
For the first four exposures he used an aluminized mylar solar filter, which resulted in the characteristic blue color of the solar disk. The photos of the thin solar rim were shot without a filter, as were the two diamond rings and the corona shots. The last six exposures, when the moon was exiting the solar disk, were taken through a glass solar filter coated with chromium, which gave the orange hue, and the film was changed to Kodak Professional Ektachrome, having ASA rating of 100.
Great shots, Jim!
